Flood Precast products are making a major contribution to Huddersfield’s new flagship Leisure Centre, on the Spring Grove car park at Springwood, which is due to open in 2015.
The Leisure Centre is being constructed at a cost of £36 million by a team headed by BAM.
Flood Precast demonstrated their well-known ability to adapt their products to the demands of a particular design, working closely with BAM to come up with varied precast floor solutions on this project.
Concrete Flooring Products
Flood Precast supplied a range of their concrete flooring solutions for this project:
- Hollowcore Flooring
- Omnia Flooring
- and their trademark Flood Super Wideslab® flooring solution.
The Hollowcore was used in areas where an exposed soffit was not required.
Super Wideslab® was installed for the areas that had the requirement of a fair faced soffit to a class B finish, this also required a good coverage of the steel in the precast floor planks.
Omnia was used where intricate shapes were required in the floor.
Other Flood Precast Products
In addition to supplying this range of flooring products, Flood Precast also supplied the following products:
- Ground beams,
- Precast columns,
- Terrace units
- Precast stairs.
State-of-the-art Facilities
The Leisure Centre will incorporate an eight-lane, 25-metre swimming pool; a teaching pool; two sports halls; climbing, squash and martial arts facilities; and a café and children’s area. There will also be a family leisure facility including a beach, flume, sidewinder and several more water features. The air-conditioned fitness suite will have 120 fitness stations with a combination of cardio-vascular and resistance equipment.
An Exciting Development
Councillor Mehboob Khan, Leader of Kirklees Council, told a local newspaper; “It’s an exciting development for the whole of Huddersfield and beyond. It is creating local jobs, bringing investment into the town and will help people to get fit and remain active.”
