LEADING SUPPLIER SINCE 1979
Because of its high density, and its sound-absorbing qualities, Wideslab, our trademark Wideslab flooring, was the ideal material to contain the risks posed by live ammunition at Northumbria Police Authority’s new Firearms Training Facility at Follingsby Park, Gateshead.
The recently-completed new building contains firing ranges and driver training accommodation, together with office space for the Firearms Support Unit.
High-quality soffit finish
As well as contributing to a safe perimeter for the firing ranges, Flood’s 3,600 square metres of Wideslab ensured compliance with a tight construction schedule, by providing a Class B soffit finish to which paint could be applied directly.
Bespoke feature precast stairs
The five precast stair cores in the Firearms Training Facility were constructed off-site to a bespoke design and form a distinctive feature of the building.
Coordinating with contractor
Flood worked closely with steel-erecting contractor and Kier Construction, to ensure that work progressed smoothly and with the minimum of delay. An important advantage of Wideslab and precast stairs is that they can be installed to a tight schedule, with minimal disruption from adverse weather, and that they can quickly provide a platform for follow-on trades.
Working successfully to a tight time-scale
The time-scale for installing the concrete slab, and the bespoke stairs, was limited to six days. 2.4 metre wide Wideslab was laid during this period at approximately 700 square metres per day.
