Flood Precast was awarded the design, manufacture and delivery of their trademark wide slab flooring product, Precast Flood Super Wideslab® with a high quality exposed soffit finish to Houghton Primary Care Centre, Tyne and Wear.
The contract for the construction of the project was won by Willmott Dixon.
Exposed Soffit Ceiling and Thermal Mass
Flood Precast were asked to provide a precast slab that had a high quality exposed soffit finish which could be directly painted and act as a ceiling in bedrooms and consultation rooms. The precast soffits were incorporated into the design to help with the thermal mass of the building. Flood Precast did not install the slabs on this project but provided advice and assistance to the steel frame contractors during the installation phase.
The building has gone on to be short-listed and to win many awards including BREEAM award winner 2012, Building magazines sustainable project of the year and Greenbuild magazine award. The Houghton Care Centre was the first healthcare project to a achieve a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating.
