BIM – Flood Precast fully embracing this New Construction Technology

Flood Precast has been striving to quickly adopt BIM, the computerised design, data sharing, and management process which is revolutionising the construction industry.

A Key Role in UK and Ireland

It is certain that Building Information Modelling will increasingly come to dominate the construction industry in both Ireland and the UK. The Dublin Institute of Technology’s prospectus is clear: “BIM will be central to the resurgence of the building industry in Ireland.” The UK Government has identified it as a key element in its industrial strategy paper, ‘Construction 2025’, and will mandate it for all centrally procured Government contracts from 2016. Other publicly-funded bodies seem bound to follow this lead.

BIM at Flood Precast

At Flood Precast we firmly believe in adopting these techniques. An internal team is working to take forward the integration of Building Information Modelling processes into design and construction. The tools are already being used for computer aided design, and for communication with clients.

Precast Concrete in Building Information Modelling

This integrated approach to design and construction is particularly appropriate when components such as Flood Precast floors and stairs are used. Not only can their design be visualised in the context of the whole building, but also it becomes easy for other trades to see, for example, how mechanical and electrical ducting will relate to the precast elements. Potential conflicts can be resolved at an early stage, ensuring adherence to schedules and value for the client.

The Benefits

Already, Flood Precast has been able to demonstrate proficiency in this new technology, and to use it successfully in a number of projects like Birmingham New Street Station Multi-Storey Car park and City of Sunderland College, Bede Campus.
