BIM at Birmingham New Street Station Car Park

Flood Precast uses BIM in successful project coordination at Birmingham New Street Station Car Park. The redevelopment of the station is a major project involving many contractors.

By using Building Information Modelling, Flood Precast are able to work seamlessly with the steel constructors on the multi-storey car park, ensuring safety, efficiency, and adherence to schedule.

A £500 million project

The car park is part of Gateway Plus, a half billion pound project which is intended to regenerate Birmingham New Street railway station and the Pallasades Shopping Centre above it.

Managing a large and complex project using BIM

Flood Precast is working with Conder Allslade, the steel frame designers, using the BIM steel frame model to visualise the project down to its small details, so as to anticipate and prevent potential problems, and minimise construction risks. Flood Precast’s attention to detail also involves coordinating deliveries with other trades to reduce disruption to the project and the local area.

10,000  M2 of Flood Super Wideslab

10,000 m2 of Super Wideslab is being designed, manufactured, delivered and installed at the 11 storey split level New Street car park.  This will be carried out in three phases over a six month period. The 2.4 m wide Super Wideslab allows faster installation and a rate of 500 square metres per day is being achieved

Exposed soffit finish

The Super Wideslab at Birmingham New Street Car Park has Flood’s Class B finish, to which paint can be applied directly. It also ensures that the thermal mass of the exposed concrete can assist in maintaining a stable temperature.
