Precast Concrete Columns are Free!

Flood Precast have supplied Precast Concrete Columns to many projects throughout the UK. The feedback we have received on the quality of the finish and the design and procurement process has been very positive. But the most notable feedback was on the cost savings achieved using Precast Concrete Columns, especially on an inner city project with restricted storage and expensive hook time.

On one project with Contractors prelims running at £30,000 per week and using two tower cranes on a fast track site. The Prelim cost as a function of hook time was £375 per hour. Using precast columns it took 15 minutes of hook time per column rather than 1 hour and 15 mins of hook time to cast a single insitu Concrete Column, effectively saving £375 per column. Columns generally cost less than £375 so the savings meant the Columns were effectively free.

Flood Precast design and manufacture Precast Concrete Columns in circular, square or rectangular shapes. Reinforced Concrete Columns can be designed and manufactured to your specifications and can incorporate additional features and fittings.
Precast Concrete Columns are generally considered for use on in-situ concrete flat slab projects where there’s a high demand on tower crane hook time and tight construction programmes. When considering the use of precast concrete columns it is generally worthwhile, progressing all vertical elements as precast by constructing the stair and lift cores with Precast Twin Wall.
Benefits of using Flood Precast Concrete Columns:

  • A Precast Column can be erected 5 times faster than an in situ column giving you enormous cost and time savings.
  • Ability to achieve a high quality and uniform finish
  • Installation is unaffected by site weather conditions
  • Considerable reduction in labour requirement on site
  • Eliminates the need for small concrete loads and evening pours which are a feature with in-situ columns.
  • Reduction in waste
  • Reduction in storage requirement
  • When using high strength concrete, a reduction in reinforcement steel can be achieved.
  • Noise reduction because the erection of Precast Concrete Columns is a silent process which can take place at any time day or night.
  • There are generally time restrictions on noisy site activities such as the pouring and vibrating of in-situ columns.
  • There is a substantial Health & Safety dividend when using Precast Columns.
